A Design Binding of the Folio Society edition of “The Periodic Table” by Primo Levi.
When designing and producing a design binding, attention to detail is paramount in the handmade processes required. Everything from tension of sewing, thickness of leather and appropriate drying time needs to be taken into consideration.
The structure is of the Bradel Binding method, using decorative leather onlays to spine, and designed and printed book cloth for the cover boards. Additional decorative techniques include, printed endpapers, edge decoration, double-core sewn headbands and foil blocking.
The binding was submitted to the annual Designer Bookbinders competition and received a Highly Commended Certificate from the judges.
